The reconstructed Enyimba International Stadium is to be commissioned on the 28th of August.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu disclosed this while answering questions from newsmen after inspecting the progress of work at the stadium.

He said that the state is on course, adding that his government is bent on getting the confederation of African football (CAF) to re-accredit the stadium for continental engagements involving Enyimba.

“I think we are on course, we are proposing to play here on 28th and officially open  the stadium. We are going to endure that CAF re-accredits the stadium. It is better and more beautiful and more digital now and we think it has met world standard”, he said.

According to him, the stadium is 90 percent completed, pointing out that with the level of work done so far, the 28th target date will be met.

The Governor said that government will do something about the indoor games and aesthetics of the stadium.

It will be noted that the installation of a new turf cost the state one million euros (about N450 million) according to the commissioner of Information, John Okiyi.

We also took a look at the camp for the players because we want everybody to be resident here. We may also have to do something about indoor games, tennis and also do something about the athletics ground here.”,he added.

Our patience and the patience of Aba people are rewarding. I think they are happy. This is the first time they are seeing this kind of turf in this part of the world.”

He said he was excited with what is happening in Abia State as the state is taking football not just as entertainment but source of income, noting that the state has produced world class footballers and athletes.
